'We' - just who is this 'We', Mr. Cameron

Having returned from my night out 'on the razz' the first thing I did was to watch a repeat of Cameron's 'statement' on the recent shenanigans in Brussels last Thursday and Friday. (Starts at 15:30:45)

In his statement Cameron said: ".....We are in the EU and we want to be....." Err, just who is this 'We' Mr. Cameron, because it sure as hell ain't the British people - their views have not been sought!

The other matter which struck me was the failure of Cameron or MilibandE to even mention the people - and it was not until well into questions from the backbench MPs that one did, but only in passing. That MPs do not act like dictators, thus treating us as serfs?

It is impossible to dismiss MilibandE's efforts without noting that he had his facts totally wrong when repeating the fact that it was 26 to 1. As we all know some states have said that they need to consult their own parliaments before signing up to the Merkozy plan, so the maths could well alter dramatically. In confirmation of this, USA Today reports analysts believe resistance could be far more widespread, which could force European leaders back to the drawing board. Would there still be a euro, should such a further meeting be required, is debatable. On the subject of the euro Frances Coppola has a 'plain speaking' post here, one that is worth reading.

Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Olli Rehn has today welcomed - rather ironically as it happens - the entry into force tomorrow of the EU six-pack of fiscal requirements, adding that existing rules via the single market did apply and that whilst he very much regrets Britain’s decision not to sign-up to the deal agreed by EU leaders, he warned it would not prevent the City of London’s bankers and financial corporations from being regulated.

Update: Interesting article from the Washington Post  asking if the EU debt rules are impossible.

Update (2):  FT article worth a read here. (H/T: Ironies Too)

The "legalities" of what or what they wish to occur are not exactly clear.

Have emailed you and Ian something.

Unfortunately, they are all too clear, which is why they cannot leave Britain as the only country upholding the Lisbon Treaty......the others are trying to stage a coup d'etat.....

They are certainly going to try something. Desperation sucks, doesn't it?

S & TT: Sue, I believe TT sums it up in a nutshell - plus since when have the EU respected legalities.......?

A very good night on the razz if Frances can become Francis :-)

Were you looking through the lens of the bottom of an empty wine bottle or two? Maybe polish up the glasses a bit better next time!
