Huhne pictured debating the EU

By sticking his head in the sand, thus elevating and exposing his thinking parts

"We will not, as Liberal Democrats in government, weaken the ties that deliver our national interest through Europe." Chris Huhne, 20th September 2011
.....regardless of what the people think. From the European Commission - who can hardly be accused of being anti-EU - and their biannual survey carried out in May 2011, in which the same question was posed throughout member states:

Hardly surprising that Romania and Bulgaria just LURVE the EU. They're backward countries with a population of people who have had to beg, steal and borrow to survive. Did you know that since those two countries have joined the EU, crime in the UK has TRIPLED?

"Our national interest" is an interesting phrase. It begs certain questions.

What exactly is our national interest and who defines it?

Who exactly is the us this "our" refers to?

How is it to be distinguished from the narrow interest of the party in power?
