Cameron forgets a few basic facts

David Cameron's article at the weekend, which appeared in the Sunday Express, has drawn ridicule from a number of areas: Ukip, Menzies Campbell - and Nick Clegg, if the Mail's quoted sources can be believed.

In the Mail article David Cameron is quoted thus:
"The British people have fought and died for people's rights to freedom and dignity but they did not fight so that people did not have to take full responsibility for their actions."
It view of that statement, it is perhaps an opportune time to remind David Cameron of a few salient points:

Neither did the British people fight and die for their freedom, dignity and right to self-governance to be ceded by the actions of self-serving, self-opinionated politicians.

Neither did the British people fight and die to have their society turned upside down by multiculturalism inflicted on them through the actions of politicians driven by ideology;

Neither did the British people fight and die to have their county turned into an economic basket-case, again through the implementation of misplaced and mistaken ideology practised by financial incompetents;

Neither did the British people fight and die so that their elected representatives could plunder the public purse in order that they might enjoy a far higher standard of living;

Neither did the British people fight and die to have their country left virtually defenceless for reasons of political expediency;

Neither did the British people fight and die to have their united kingdom torn asunder, once again for reasons of political expediency;

Finally, as Cameron rightly maintains, neither did the British people fight and die so that people did not have to take responsibility for their actions - which is why Cameron and his ilk will, one day, face the avenging - and maybe bloody - wrath of the British people.

Well said WfW. If Cameron thinks he'll get credit for such weasel words, then the man is a bigger fool than I took him for.

WfW,

It's always tempting to believe what the government says, despite ample evidence to the contrary, and similarly it's tempting to take Cameron seriously. Different soundbites for different audiences and no consistent set of political ideas or values at the bottom of it. He's unbelievably shallow.

He's modelled himself on Blair, but doesn't have Blair's skills. He's an empty suit managing to stand up because it's impregnated with bullshit.

British people fight and die whilst certain politicians just "do the talking"...

Very well put, WfW; almost poetic.
But will Cameron and his ilk one day face the avenging wrath of the British people? Do people care enough? I sometimes wonder whether political activism in this country belonged solely to the 60s & 70s and was the preserve of the left. Since then any right wing backlash has been muted at best; subdued no doubt by media apathy (including BBC hostility). Maybe countries like Libya, Syria and Egypt don't have celebs for their media to get fixated on.

"The British people have fought and died for people's rights to freedom and dignity but they did not fight so that people did not have to take full responsibility for their actions."

True. But politicians, by transferring the privileges we gave parliament, have effectively removed our rights to act, and thus our sense of responsibility.
